What it is
Table tennis (ping pong) is played on a table with a low net, using small paddles and a light ball. Drop-in sessions have singles and doubles games, and players rotate tables.
What to bring
- Indoor shoes and comfortable clothing.
- A paddle if you have one. Most centres supply paddles and balls, but players often bring their own.
What it costs
Drop-in table tennis is usually low cost, and sessions for adults 55+ often cost very little with a membership. The schedule on each city page shows the price of each session.
Skill levels
Most sessions mix levels. Regular players are usually happy to rally with new players. Some centres set aside tables for beginners.
How drop-in play works
Players share tables. Games are often to 11 points, and players take turns when others are waiting. Ask the group how they rotate before you start.
Tips for your first visit
- Warm up with a gentle rally before you play a game.
- Serve from behind the end of the table, with the ball tossed up from an open hand.
