What it is
Aquafit is a group fitness class in the pool. The water supports your body, so the class is gentle on knees, hips and backs, but it can still be a strong workout. Deep water classes use a flotation belt; shallow classes keep your feet on the bottom.
What to bring
- A swimsuit, a towel and a lock for the change room locker.
- Water shoes if you like grip on the pool floor.
- A water bottle on the pool deck.
What it costs
Drop-in aquafit usually costs a few dollars per class. Passes and memberships cost less per class. The schedule on each city page shows the price of each session.
Types of classes
- Shallow water: walking, jogging and arm exercises in chest-deep water.
- Deep water: running and cycling motions with a flotation belt.
- Gentle or therapeutic: slower classes for mobility and recovery.
Tips for your first visit
- Tell the instructor if you have an injury; they will show you options.
- Morning classes are popular with older adults and fill early.
