What it is
Drop-in volleyball is played in a gym with teams of four to six. Players rotate positions, and teams change as people arrive. Some centres run recreational sessions and separate competitive sessions.
What to bring
- Indoor court shoes with non-marking soles.
- Knee pads if you plan to dive for the ball.
- Water.
What it costs
Adult drop-in volleyball usually costs a few dollars per visit. Some cities ask you to reserve a spot online, a few days before the session. The schedule on each city page shows the price of each session.
Skill levels
Recreational sessions welcome new players. Competitive sessions expect players who can pass, set and serve overhand.
Tips for your first visit
- Tell the group you are new; players will help with rotation.
- Call the ball ("mine") so teammates know who takes it.
